He intends to participate in the celebration of the anniversary of the end of World War II (which is referred to as the "Great Patriotic War" in Russia and is observed a day later than the rest of the world).
"I was pleased to accept the official invitation from [illegitimate president of Russia] Vladimir Putin to take part in these important festivities," his post states.
Fico emphasized that the troops and peoples of the former Soviet Union played an "irreplaceable role in the victory over fascism."
"The citizens of Slovakia respectfully remember all anniversaries and events related to the liberation of our territory by the Red Army in 1944, as well as the assistance provided by the former USSR. The government of Slovakia honors the legacy of the fight against fascism, the historical truth about World War II, and the role played by the Red Army in it," he added.
