In addition to his relatives, Biden granted clemency to several other individuals.
"The issuance of these pardons should not be mistakenly viewed as an acknowledgment that they committed any offenses, and the acceptance should not be misinterpreted as an admission of guilt for any wrongdoing," the statement reads.
Biden emphasized his belief in the rule of law and expressed optimism that the strength of U.S. legal institutions "will ultimately prevail over politics."
"However, baseless and politically motivated investigations harm the lives, safety, and financial well-being of those targeted and their families. Even if individuals have done nothing wrong and are eventually exonerated, the mere fact of an investigation or prosecution can cause irreparable damage to their reputation and finances," explained the 46th president of the United States regarding the pardons.
Forbes reports that the decision to pardon five of Biden's relatives was made just 20 minutes before Trump was sworn in.
Previously, Biden pardoned his son Hunter, as well as individuals unrelated to his family.
