Putin stated that he wants Russian companies to have "certain advantages" over "those who are returning" to the Russian market as retaliation for Western sanctions.
According to the FT, these comments are the first sign of Russia's readiness to welcome Western companies back after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the RF three years ago led to businesses leaving the country. As reported by the Kyiv School of Economics, since February 2022, 472 foreign companies have exited the Russian market, while another 1,360 have reduced their presence in the RF.
At the same time, Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov mentioned that detailed discussions are unlikely to occur until Western countries lift the sanctions imposed due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
