Earlier that day, Reuters and "Interfax-Ukraine" reported, citing their own sources, that the U.S. for the first time since the onset of the full-scale war did not become a co-sponsor of the UN General Assembly resolution supporting Kyiv.
A journalist from "Voice of America" asked Kelly whether the U.S. would become a co-sponsor of the resolution.
"We haven't made a decision on this matter. Washington is still deliberating. So, I hope we will reach a decision soon," he replied.
The American diplomat was asked whether the U.S. would vote in favor of this resolution.
"We will need to see what instructions we receive from Washington. I hope they arrive soon," Kelly stated.
A diplomatic source informed Reuters that more than 50 countries are co-sponsors of the resolution but declined to name them. Another source told the agency that "the situation is such that they (the U.S.) will not sign it." He added that efforts are ongoing to garner support from other countries, particularly from the Global South.
