During the discussion regarding the decision of the new head of the White House to release classified documents from previous administrations, Carlson, who has repeatedly made anti-Ukrainian statements and interviewed Russian politicians supporting armed aggression against Ukraine, including Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, claimed that Anthony Blinken, who served as U.S. Secretary of State under President Biden, allegedly insisted on a "real war," supposedly trying to kill Putin.
"Okay, but who will take power in Russia [after Putin's death]? And what will happen to the nuclear arsenal in a country that is so complex that outsiders cannot comprehend it? It's madness to even think about it. But chaos is the screen that protects them," Carlson stated.
However, he provided no evidence to support his claims.
Additionally, the American journalist referred to former CIA Director John Brennan, former U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as "criminals."
CNN reported in February 2024 that Carlson once criticized the Russian authorities, but in recent years he has shown much more favor towards the country under Putin's leadership and increasingly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he compared to pests. In 2023, he referred to Zelensky as a "rat-like comedian," echoing an anti-Semitic stereotype from Nazi Germany, adds Business Insider.
