The Czech Foreign Ministry stated that the threat of Fico halting electricity imports to Ukraine is "nonexistent."

Most of the electricity that Ukraine receives from the Slovak grid is generated in the Czech Republic and Germany. This was stated by Václav Bartuška, the special envoy of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs for energy security, in an interview published on January 29 by Ukrinform.
В МИД Чехии отметили, что угроза Фицо остановить импорт электроэнергии в Украину "не имеет оснований" и "равна нулю".

A journalist asked the diplomat to comment on the words of the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, who threatened to halt the supply of European electricity to Ukraine due to its refusal to transit Russian gas to the EU.

"Firstly, the majority of the electricity that flows through Slovakia to Ukraine does not originate from Slovakia itself, which imports electricity. Most of the electricity coming to Ukraine comes from the Czech Republic (we are the second-largest exporter of electricity to the EU after France) or Germany. Slovakia's statement is akin to Chișinău saying: 'We will stop the transit of electricity to Ukraine.' It is empty," said Bartushka.

According to him, Fico's statement is political and "amounts to zero."

"We have four European countries bordering Ukraine, and at least two of them will not stop supplying electricity – Poland and Romania. What Slovakia and Hungary will do is not very important. I believe this was a statement aimed at Mr. Fico's electorate," the Czech diplomat opined.
