War in Ukraine: China has urged a rejection of the notion of achieving goals through military means.

China is urging an "urgent" call for the parties involved in the Ukraine conflict to come to the negotiation table. This statement was made on November 27 by Geng Shuang, the Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the UN, during a meeting of the UN Security Council, as reported by the UN's website with a translation from Chinese.

"We are deeply concerned about the escalation of the conflict, and we urge all parties involved to exercise restraint and abandon the notion of achieving their goals through military means. It is crucial to urgently initiate negotiations and to establish a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities," said the Chinese diplomat.

During his speech, he referred to the war in Ukraine as a "war," a term that Beijing typically avoids.

"The Ukrainian crisis has reached its peak today, which is why we are hearing calls for peace and an end to this war. Some proposals and ideas have already been put forward, and there has been a response from the parties involved. We are aware of this from the media. It is necessary to consolidate these efforts and actively work towards the possibility of starting peace negotiations," stated Shuan.

According to him, China's position on Ukraine has not changed.

"We support peaceful negotiations and a political resolution. [...] We affirm that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected, the principles and objectives of the UN Charter must be upheld, the genuine security concerns of all nations must be taken into account, and all efforts for a peaceful resolution of the crisis must be supported. We maintain dialogue with both Russia and Ukraine," emphasized the Chinese diplomat.
