Leading pharmaceutical manufacturers in Ukraine have assured that they are prepared to maintain uninterrupted operations during blackouts.

As reported to Interfax-Ukraine by Evgeny Zaika, the regional director of the pharmaceutical company Acino, the company has had diesel generators since the beginning of the war, ensuring 100% uninterrupted operation of the plant. In 2024, they installed a solar power station along with additional voltage stabilizers and uninterruptible power supplies.

"The diversification of energy sources allows us to produce high-quality medicines and dietary supplements daily in areas such as neurology and psychiatry, cardiology, gastroenterology, and others. We have been living with outages for several years, so we have long adjusted our plans and developed backup options that we utilize in various situations," he stated.

Zaika specified that over the nine years of operation, approximately $40 million has been invested in the plant, enabling the enterprise to operate continuously while adhering to all Ukrainian and European norms and standards, including EU and UA GMP.

Meanwhile, the PR department of the pharmaceutical company "Farmak" reported that the total investments in energy autonomy for production amounted to 326.6 million UAH. In 2024, to ensure energy supply for the enterprise, Farmak installed cogeneration units, with investments in this project totaling 125 million UAH.

The company's production is 100% powered and equipped with 14 generators, two cogeneration units with a capacity of 1.5 MW each, fuel storage facilities, transformer substations, uninterruptible power supplies, a steam modular boiler, and other equipment necessary for energy independence.

The finished product warehouses are powered by generators. The cold chain is maintained by refrigeration units installed in all vehicles.

At the same time, the company emphasized that "the constant outages faced by Farmak have negatively impacted production, despite the fact that we produce a socially important product."

"There are no exceptions for us - like other enterprises, we remain without power and are forced to purchase imported electricity. We also meet our electricity needs with our own resources. It should be noted that regular, imported, or generated autonomous electricity affects the production cost, which will impact consumers in the long term," the company stressed.

For its part, the pharmaceutical company "Darnitsa," a leader in the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market in natural terms, stated that "despite outages, it ensures autonomous electricity supply for the vital processes of the company."

Without going into details, the company's operational director Evgeny Cherkas noted that electricity is supplied to warehouses, raw material and finished product storage areas, quality control departments, as well as to water preparation systems and the boiler house in autonomous mode under any conditions.

He mentioned that the pharmaceutical company has developed "several action scenarios for various situations to ensure that our work does not stop under any circumstances."
