Biden urged Georgian authorities to investigate election violations and repeal the "foreign agents" law.

The parliamentary elections in Georgia were marred by irregularities. This was stated in a statement by U.S. President Joe Biden, released on October 29 on the White House website.
Байден призвал грузинские власти расследовать выборные нарушения и отменить закон об "иноагентах".

The use of administrative resources by the authorities, along with recently adopted laws mirroring those in Russia, is steering Georgia away from its democratic development, he believes.

"I am deeply concerned about the recent regression of the country from democracy, including the adoption of legislation that mirrors Russian laws, which restrict fundamental freedoms and the space for independent civil society organizations. Just recently, on October 26, parliamentary elections were held in Georgia, overshadowed by numerous instances of abuse of administrative resources, as well as intimidation and coercion of voters," the statement reads.

Biden pointed out that independent international and Georgian observers did not deem the elections free and fair.

"We urge the government of Georgia to transparently investigate all violations during the elections, to repeal laws such as the 'Foreign Influence Law' that limit the freedom of assembly and expression, and to initiate an immediate, inclusive dialogue with all political forces in Georgia regarding the restoration of electoral integrity," the head of the White House stated, emphasizing that the rule of law and fundamental rights remain "the foundation for Georgia's Euro-Atlantic future."
