The Trump administration also claims that the agency provided "millions" to the American NGO EcoHealth Alliance, which focuses on protection against emerging infectious diseases. Additionally, USAID faces accusations of funding "food that went to Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants in Syria," as well as agricultural expenditures in Afghanistan that were used for drug production.
Recently, it became known that USAID is transitioning under the management of the U.S. State Department, as announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio on February 3. According to him, the agency will continue many projects, but it must operate within the framework of U.S. national interests rather than being an independent global charity organization.
