"Wherever the regimes of dictators fall and where these regimes intersect with those that are warring against us, I believe it will always be to our advantage. How did this happen? Well, it just did," noted Budanov.
The head of the GUR MO responded to the accusation by the representative of the aggressor state, Vasily Nebenzya, regarding the supposed involvement of the Ukrainian side in the downfall of Assad's regime.
"Well, that's their perspective. Everyone contributed to this. The Turks worked on it. Perhaps we were also involved in some way. Many worked to ensure that this regime fell, and the normal population of Syria, which by no means was entirely pro-Assad, simply exhaled and gained hope for a new, normal life," emphasized Budanov.
He added that before the fall of Assad's regime, Russians were recruiting Syrians to fight against Ukraine. The head of the GUR MO expressed hope that this would now come to an end.
