"I have signed a decree appointing Olga Reshetilova (Kobylynska) as the President of Ukraine's Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Military Personnel and the Families of Our Warriors. Olga is a well-known, experienced, and effective Ukrainian human rights activist. She has already accomplished a lot for the development of our state institutions and for supporting Ukrainians," he wrote.
According to the president, the main task now is to "work together with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and civil society to prepare a draft law on the military ombudsman and all necessary systemic foundations for the operation of this institution."
"Our warriors must receive effective tools to protect their rights, and there must be real modernization in the management of personnel in the defense forces of Ukraine," Zelensky believes.
He showed a photo where Reshetilova is in the president's office.
As of 17:55, the decree appointing Reshetilova had not yet been published on the website of the head of state.
The appointment of the military ombudsman on December 30 was Zelensky announced the day before in a statement summarizing the day's events.
Reshetilova heads the Media Initiative for Human Rights, which has been consistently promoting the idea of creating the institution of a military ombudsman for several years.
