According to media reports, Kyiv is now legally able to begin negotiations for membership, but even the first cluster has not been initiated. In total, the negotiations consist of 35 sections divided into six clusters.
As stated by European Commissioner for Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi, from a technical standpoint, the European Union could be ready to open two clusters. However, she added that further progress for Kyiv will still depend on the agreement of all EU members, and currently, not all countries are prepared for Ukraine's accession.
As noted by the EU's chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, it is essential to increase pressure on the aggressor country, Russia, to expedite the end of the war.
