"The motto of the Polish presidency is: 'Security, Europe!' Our alliance was born as a peace project after World War II, and we must once again strengthen our security to ensure peace in Europe," Kosta noted. "Therefore, Ukraine must remain our top priority. This year, we need to continue supporting Ukraine— as long as necessary, as much as required, to achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace."
As the head of the European Council pointed out, international law "must prevail in the name of the freedom of the Ukrainian people" and the overall security of the EU.
"To achieve this, we must continue to view defense as a strategic priority for the European Union. By becoming stronger, more efficient, more resilient, and yes, more autonomous. By investing more and better together, with a creative approach and pragmatism in seeking new solutions. Always working for the benefit of a strong transatlantic partnership and cooperation with NATO," Kosta emphasized.
This is why, according to the President of the European Council, he called for an informal meeting of European leaders on the topic of defense to be held in early February.
