The Cabinet approved a bill for compensation payments to the families of fallen civil defenders in Ukraine.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft law concerning one-time financial assistance for the families of civilians who lost their lives while defending Ukraine. This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a government meeting on November 22, as reported by the Cabinet's official website.
Кабмин утвердил законопроект о компенсациях для семей погибших гражданских защитников Украины.

"At the onset of the full-scale war, many Ukrainians took up arms and defended the state as civilians. For the families of such fallen civilians, a payment of 1.9 million UAH is provided. We propose to increase this amount to 15 million UAH, as we believe it is right and just. This will help support the families of those who died defending our state and future," he stated.

As explained by government representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, the draft law proposes:

  • to clarify the grounds for granting the status of a family member of a deceased defender of Ukraine;
  • to ensure a one-time payment for the family member of a deceased individual who died during activities necessary for the defense of Ukraine, in the amount of 15 million UAH, for the period from February 24 to March 25, 2022;
  • to provide additional payments to those who have already received a one-time monetary assistance, taking into account the amounts previously paid.
