The Cabinet has also adopted a shortened name for the ministry – the Ministry of National Unity.
The key responsibilities of the ministry include:
- formulating state policy regarding Ukrainian national identity, information policy, and strategic communications;
- government policy concerning the rights and interests of those who have emigrated, particularly as a result of the war, and creating conditions for their voluntary return;
- addressing (in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) the national-cultural, educational, and linguistic needs of individuals who have left the country;
- promoting Ukrainian national and civic identity.
"Additionally, the government has approved the establishment of the National Unity Agency – a key structure that will facilitate initiatives for engaging with the Ukrainian community and civil organizations in host countries," the release states.
The Agency will operate under the management of the Ministry of National Unity.
Vice Prime Minister – Minister of National Unity of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov believes that today's government decision "opens up new opportunities for effective engagement" with Ukrainian citizens.
"This will allow for a more systematic approach to issues of integration, social adaptation, and preserving the national identity of Ukrainians who have been forced to temporarily leave their homes," said the official.
