In one of the ski resorts in the Lviv region, a 12-year-old boy from Kyiv died after falling while skiing down a slope and sustaining a severe head injury.
According to the police of the Lviv region, information regarding the child's death at one of the ski resorts located in the Stryi district was reported to the police on January 8 around 2:30 PM.
Preliminary investigations by law enforcement revealed that the deceased, a 12-year-old resident of Kyiv, was vacationing with his parents. While skiing down the slope, he fell and suffered a serious head injury.
"Medical personnel provided assistance to the boy on-site, but despite all efforts, he passed away," the police reported.
Authorities are determining the legal qualifications of the incident.
Meanwhile, journalist Vitaliy Hlahola reported that the tragedy occurred at the "Plai" ski resort.
According to his information, the boy crashed into a safety net while descending the "red-black" slope at high speed.
"Video footage from surveillance cameras, according to my sources in the resort's management, shows the child performing a somersault in the air after the impact and then falling to the ground. However, access to this video is currently unavailable," he claims.
Hlahola added that the medical team, who arrived promptly at the scene, attempted to resuscitate the boy using a defibrillator, but all their efforts were unsuccessful—the child's heart did not restart.
Death of Grandfather and Grandson in a River in the Chernihiv Region
In one of the villages of the Kyseliivka community in the Chernihiv region, a 66-year-old grandfather and his 7-year-old grandson drowned in a river.
Witnesses reported that the boy suddenly ran onto the ice and fell into the water. The grandfather tried to save his grandson. Unfortunately, both lost their lives. A criminal case has been opened under part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional homicide) with a note of "accident."
