A total of 4.1 billion UAH will be allocated to the housing program for veterans among internally displaced persons (IDPs), individuals with disabilities due to the war of groups 1 and 2, and families of fallen soldiers by the end of the year.
This was reported by Viktor Mykyta, the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, following a meeting with regional leaders that included the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.
He emphasized that support for veterans is one of the key priorities of state and regional policy, outlining several directions and programs.
"Thanks to the initiative of Volodymyr Zelensky, over 4.1 billion UAH is planned to be allocated from the state budget by the end of the year to meet the housing needs of 1,836 veteran families among IDPs and individuals with disabilities due to the war of groups 1 and 2, along with families of the deceased," Mykyta stated.
He also highlighted the establishment of municipal institutions at the regional level across all areas to address veteran support issues.
"This pilot model has already proven its effectiveness and is successfully operating in various parts of the country. Additional job opportunities for veterans, working on a 'peer-to-peer' basis, and direct contact with authorities at all levels facilitate the quick resolution of current issues faced by our heroes. Resources have also been planned in the state budget for the salaries of specialists aiding veterans and demobilized individuals," he added.
According to him, the development of a network of regional veteran spaces is also being discussed to work on the structure and its separate branches in districts and communities of each region, for which funds have also been allocated in the state budget.
"At the same time, we are forming programs at the regional level for co-financing this project in the volume necessary for the implementation of the concept," he noted.
To build new and renovate existing rehabilitation centers for veterans in the regions, state and local budgets are being utilized, and work is being conducted with donors and international partners. The creation of rehabilitation departments in cluster and super-cluster hospitals is underway, aimed at restoring physical and mental health and reintegrating heroes into normal everyday life.
"Funds from the state budget for repairs are already in the accounts of medical institutions. Equipment is being delivered sequentially to each restored department," Mykyta reported.
