The President expressed gratitude for the support provided to Ukraine by the United States and noted that together the countries have formed a global coalition of defenders of freedom and the principles of international peace and security.
The heads of state also discussed the details of the new U.S. sanctions package targeting Russian energy, which aids the illegitimate president of the aggressor country, Vladimir Putin, in financing the war.
"It is very important that America has now struck against Russia's 'shadow tanker fleet' and companies like 'Gazprom Neft' and 'Surgutneftegaz', which funnel money directly to Putin. He must feel the cost of his war by losing from his own pockets. I am grateful to America, to both parties, and to both chambers of Congress for supporting what is a just pressure on Russia for its unprovoked and criminal aggression," Zelensky highlighted.
Additionally, he discussed with Biden the situation on the battlefield, the need to further strengthen Ukraine's air defense, and the protection of Ukrainian settlements from daily strikes by Russian missiles and drones. "Patriot systems in the hands of Ukrainians have proven their effectiveness; we must bolster this capability," the president emphasized.
He also extended condolences regarding the devastating wildfires in California. "I acknowledged the heroism of Americans who are helping to save lives from the flames and halt the spread of wildfires," Zelensky stated.
