Poland did not invite Hungary to the EU Council presidency ceremony, prompting a response from Budapest.

Warsaw did not extend an invitation to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the Hungarian ambassador for the ceremonial event marking the commencement of Poland's presidency in the Council of the European Union on January 3. This information was reported by Reuters, citing Magdalena Sokołowska-Czerniecka, the Deputy Minister for European Affairs in Poland.
Польша не пригласила Венгрию на церемонию по случаю своего председательства в Совете ЕС, что вызвало реакцию Будапешта.

According to her, a month ago Poland invited the entire diplomatic corps; however, it changed its decision regarding Hungary after Budapest granted political asylum to former Deputy Minister of Justice of Poland Marcin Romanowski, who was detained in July over allegations of misusing state funds.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also criticized Orbán's stance on the aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, which Warsaw views as pro-Russian.

This decision by Poland was labeled "pitiful and childish" by Hungary's Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who was quoted on social media platform X by Hungary's State Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Relations with the Public, Zoltán Kovács.
