Poland aims to achieve the introduction of protective tariffs by the European Union on fertilizer imports from Russia and Belarus, stated the Minister of State Assets, Jakub Yaworowski, in an interview with the newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
"Russia and Belarus are destabilizing our markets by supplying fertilizers at dumping prices. (...) This year, imports of fertilizers from the east have doubled compared to the previous year. We must put an end to this. We do not wish to propose a sanctions route, as it requires unanimity among all EU members – IF-U, and we know that this will not happen. Therefore, we want to pursue the path of customs duties. We believe that a tariff of 30-40% should halt imports from the east. This will be our demand," Yaworowski declared.
In his opinion, the import of fertilizers from Russia and Belarus, which have access to cheap gas, harms not only the Polish producer Grupa Azoty but also the European chemical industry as a whole.
