Polish farmers are demanding, among other things, a reduction in agricultural taxes, as well as the cancellation of the free trade agreement between the European Union and South American countries, as they fear an uncontrolled influx of agricultural products into Poland from Mercosur countries (an alliance that includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Bolivia).
On November 23, the protesters started a demonstration near the border crossing with Ukraine "Medika – Shegini," where trucks coming from Ukraine were not being allowed through, while trucks from Poland to Ukraine could pass one at a time every hour. The next day, the Polish Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski visited them, and the activists suspended their protest until December 10.
"We are giving the minister time, and if nothing is done, we will definitely return to the border. And it will be a mass protest; demonstrations will occur along the entire eastern border," stated Kondrow.
