After halting the transit of Russian gas, Russia might target Ukraine's pipelines, according to Bloomberg.

The aggressor country, Russia, may target Ukraine's gas transportation system after the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukrainian territory, starting January 1, 2025. This information was reported by Bloomberg on December 28.
После остановки транзита российского газа РФ может нанести удары по украинским газопроводам, сообщает Bloomberg.

The term of the contract signed in 2019 for the transit of Russian gas will expire at the end of 2024. Ukraine has repeatedly stated that it has no plans to extend the contract.

According to the agency, when making the decision to cease the transit of Russian gas, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky must consider the need to protect the country's gas pipeline system, which spans 38,600 km.

For nearly three years of full-scale war, this network, one of the largest in the world, has not been attacked by the Russian Federation, as it has been transporting Russian gas, Bloomberg noted.

If the transit is halted, the system could become a target for missile strikes from the occupiers, similar to what has already occurred with gas storage facilities and generation sites, the media pointed out.

This would also create technical issues that could complicate heating homes across Ukraine during the winter months, the agency added.
