A Trump security guard, who "saved" him during an assassination attempt, has taken charge of the U.S. Secret Service.

U.S. President Donald Trump appointed Sean Carran, who previously served in his security detail, as the director of the United States Secret Service. On January 23, the head of the White House announced this on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Новым главой секретной службы США стал охранник Трампа, который "спас" его во время покушения.

Karran was among those who protected Trump at a campaign rally on July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania. As a result of the shooting, the future president was injured in the ear.

"He demonstrated his fearless bravery when, risking his own life, he helped save me from a killer's bullet," the president wrote, calling him "a great patriot."

Karran has worked in the Secret Service for over 20 years, with the last few dedicated to protecting the Trump family and their residences. He has proven himself to be a "brilliant leader" and will make the American agency "stronger than ever before," believes the new head of the White House.

The New York Times describes Karran as an unusual choice, as he has not worked at the agency's headquarters in Washington and leaps over numerous career steps with his appointment as head of the U.S. Secret Service. The publication notes that his appointment does not require Senate approval.

After the assassination attempt at that time, the head of the service, Kimberly Cheatle, stated that she would not resign but resigned 10 days later, according to Reuters.
