It is noted that initially, Scholz planned to request a vote of confidence on January 15, 2025, to hold new elections at the end of March. However, under public pressure, he stated on November 10 in an interview with ARD that it would be "absolutely no problem" for him to bring the confidence question before Christmas on December 25.
Amid the disintegration of the government coalition, it is expected that Scholz will not receive the vote of confidence, which could lead to early elections in Germany on February 23, 2025, as previously suggested to the President of Germany by the leaders of the Social Democratic Party of Germany and the CDU/CSU bloc. This date has also been agreed upon with the Green Party, Handelsblatt emphasized.
