Szijjártó announced that Hungary is prepared to supply Russian gas to Slovakia.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó announced that to ensure Slovakia's energy security, Hungary could supply specific volumes of Russian gas that arrive in Hungary via the "Turkish Stream" pipeline and its branches in Bulgaria and Serbia. He made this statement during a press conference following his meeting with Israeli colleague Gideon Sa'ar in Budapest on January 23, which he streamed on his Facebook page. The minister's remarks were reported by TASR.
Сийярто сообщил, что Венгрия готова поставлять российский газ в Словакию.

Szijjártó reminded that in 2024 Hungary received 7.6 billion cubic meters of gas through the "Turkish Stream," while the capacity of this gas pipeline and its northern extension is 8.5 billion cubic meters. Thus, the minister explained, there remains a reserve of approximately 900 million cubic meters. At the same time, Hungary and Slovakia will increase the pipeline capacity between the two countries by exactly that amount. The Foreign Minister believes this will ensure the energy security of Slovakia, which will no longer receive Russian gas via Ukraine, the media reports.

Szijjártó described Kyiv's decision to prohibit the transportation of gas from the aggressor country, Russia, as unacceptable and added that it "poses a threat to the energy security of the region."

"It is unacceptable that a candidate for European Union membership is creating energy supply problems for EU members," the media quotes the minister.

Regarding gas procurement, the minister noted that Hungary is not prepared to relinquish its sovereign right to determine where and how it will obtain energy resources.
