A European Commission representative claims that the EU faces no issues with gas supply or reserves.

The European Union is not facing any issues with gas supply or storage levels, stated Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, the official spokesperson for the European Commission.
Представитель Еврокомиссии заявил, что у ЕС отсутствуют проблемы с поставками и запасами газа.

The European Union is not facing any issues with gas supply and storage levels, stated the European Commission (EC) spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.

"I have said this before, and I will repeat: there are no problems with gas supply for member states," said the spokesperson in response to questions during a briefing in Brussels on Tuesday regarding the cessation of Ukrainian transit of Russian gas to the EU on December 31, 2024.

Itkonen confirmed that the current level of gas storage in Europe stands at 70%. This is lower than the same period in 2024, but higher than the average storage levels prior to 2022. The EC representative attributed the difference from the previous year to an increase in gas demand.

She also mentioned that in light of the expiration of the agreement on Ukrainian transit of Russian gas, the European Commission continues to maintain contact with the countries most affected by this event, particularly Moldova, to monitor the consequences of the agreement's conclusion and ensure stable supplies.

"At this moment, we are maintaining contacts at both technical and political levels with all parties involved," the spokesperson noted.

According to her, discussions on energy topics with EU partners and member states affected by the cessation of Ukrainian transit are not limited to gas, but cover a broader range of energy issues.

During these discussions, for instance, the European Commission's plans and its "roadmap" for phasing out Russian fossil fuels are being addressed, the EC representative reported.
