The diplomat revealed that the embassy is working on a series of meetings between the teams of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and American President Donald Trump.
When asked whether there will be a meeting between Zelensky and Trump, Markarova responded: "We are always preparing for both meetings and calls. This takes some time. Ukraine has much more contact [with the new U.S. president's team] than other countries."
In particular, according to Markarova, the Ukrainian embassy in the U.S. has good contacts with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, with whom the diplomatic mission had been working even before Trump was elected.
On February 4, Zelensky announced that Kyiv and Washington are coordinating the dates for Trump's team's visit for negotiations.
Zelensky mentioned that on February 4, Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak had a conversation with Waltz, and the day before, the president's team had been in contact with Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg.
"We are currently coordinating the dates and composition, and we are waiting for the teams. We will work together," Zelensky stated.
