Insulting the Fallen Soldiers in Dnipro

As reported by UNIAN, in July 2024, five fraudsters were detained for withdrawing all the savings of soldiers whose bodies were delivered for forensic examination in Dnipro.

At that time, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) noted that an employee of the regional forensic bureau was involved in these thefts, stealing personal belongings of the fallen soldiers from the morgue, including payment cards and mobile phones registered in online banking.

The fraudsters not only withdrew money from the cards of the deceased but also arranged online loans in their names. They attempted to carry out transactions as quickly as possible before financial institutions received information about the actual account holders' deaths.

The SBU also reported that besides the forensic bureau employee, the gang included an IT specialist who "hacked" the banking applications of the fallen soldiers, as well as a repeat offender with a prior conviction.

During searches in the premises and vehicles of the detainees, mobile phones, SIM cards, and bank cards of the suspects were seized, along with cards, personal belongings, and uniforms of the deceased servicemen.
