In the city of Pyriatyn, Poltava region, during the escort of military conscripts to a training center, an unknown man shot a serviceman from the regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCRC and SP) with a hunting rifle and fled with one of the mobilized individuals.
This was reported by the command of the Ground Forces on Facebook. "On February 1, 2025, at a gas station in the city of Pyriatyn, during the escort of military conscripts to the 199th training center, an outrageous incident occurred - an armed attack on a serviceman from the Poltava district territorial recruitment and social support center (TCRC and SP)," the statement said.
It was noted that an unknown man in a gray balaclava and pixel-patterned trousers approached the serviceman from the Poltava TCRC and SP, threatening him with a hunting rifle and demanding his weapon. After receiving a refusal, the assailant shot the serviceman. As a result of the severe injury, the soldier died on the spot.
After the attack, the perpetrator seized the serviceman's automatic weapon and fled with one of the mobilized conscripts.
Later, it became known that the police of Poltava region detained the man who shot the serviceman.
The head of the Poltava police, Yevhen Rohachev, reported that within several hours of operational-search activities, the whereabouts of the attackers were established. With the involvement of special police units from the region, they were apprehended.
According to the police, the shooter was a resident of Poltava region born in 1984. His accomplice was a resident of Poltava born in 1988.
"During an urgent search, investigators seized the weapon from the attacker. The issue of notifying the suspects of charges and choosing a preventive measure for them is being resolved," the police chief added.
