In the center of Kiev, a pipeline burst at the intersection of Zhylianska and Symona Petliury streets. Around 16:40, a damage occurred in the heating network, causing water to leak onto the roadway.
According to reports from the KCCA, due to the accident, heating has been temporarily suspended in over 230 buildings. The service is expected to resume within a day for all buildings except for six, which will be heated using mobile boiler units until full restoration of heat supply.
"As a result of the emergency situation on the large-diameter pipeline, adjacent buildings were damaged – a hostel (at the time of the accident, the residents were absent) and an administrative building," the statement said.
A correspondent from the "Kiev24" channel reported that part of the facade of an old building collapsed on Zhylianska street.
"Tenants of one cafe mentioned that water poured into the cafe like a river. Visitors were promptly evacuated. Utility workers stated that a 450 mm pipe failed. An old building is located near the epicenter of the rupture. The hole from the burst damaged part of the facade. The upper arch of the entrance could not withstand it," the journalist said.
Due to the pipeline rupture, traffic had to be temporarily closed at the corner of Zhylianska and Symona Petliury streets. At 18:03, it was reported that the traffic had been restored.
However, by 19:43, the KCCA announced that traffic on Symona Petliury street was once again closed from Saksahanskoho street to Zhylianska street. City transport is operating with changes in routes:
- Buses No. 24, 50, 114 towards the railway station and away from it are operating on parallel streets.
- Trolleybuses No. 12, 14 are running on a shortened route to the Sports Palace.
To address the aftermath of the accident, 11 units of equipment and over 30 workers from "Kyivteploenergo," emergency rescue, road, and other services are involved.
Pipeline Burst in Kiev
The rupture at the intersection of Zhylianska and Symona Petliury streets is not the first incident involving a pipeline in the capital recently. In early November, a large-scale pipe burst occurred in the Pechersk district with hot water.
At that time, preparatory work was being conducted at the site following a comprehensive reconstruction of the heating network in that area. During the filling of the pipeline with water, it lost its integrity.
On October 29, boiling water flooded the streets near the "Olimpiyska" metro station. At that time, patrol police reported that due to the rupture, traffic was hindered at the intersection of Dylovoi and Velyka Vasylkivska streets.
