The Anti-Corruption Court has arrested another judge for allegedly extorting $1 million from a businessman, setting bail at 30 million UAH.

The High Anti-Corruption Court has detained the former head of the Appellate Economic Court in one of the regions, who is suspected of extorting $1 million from a representative of a private company. This information was reported on December 30th by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office on Facebook.

It has been reported that the investigating judge of the VAKS granted the request of NABU detectives, approved by the SAP prosecutor, and imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention on the former chairman of the Appeal Economic Court, with an alternative of posting a bail of 30 million 280 thousand UAH.

The duration of the preventive measure is until February 27, 2025, as noted by the SAP.

The VAKS made the decision to take the suspect into custody in the courtroom.

The prosecution did not disclose the name of the judge but mentioned that the SAP and NABU exposed the judge and the former chairman of the Economic Court of one of the regions for extortion in early December 2024.

"For the specified amount, the individuals promised to ensure the adoption of necessary decisions on court cases that were under the jurisdiction of one of the appellate economic courts. During the investigation, SAP and NABU established the involvement of another person in this crime, namely the former chairman of the Appeal Economic Court of one of the regions," the statement said.

According to information from the publication "Slovo i Diło", this concerns the former chairman of the Western Appeal Economic Court, Bohdan Plotnytskyi.
