"There was a request from our military – and it is an objective necessity – to establish a special institute of a military ombudsman. We need someone who will be capable of protecting the rights of our soldiers, and a systemic ability for the ombudsman to work together with the Ministry of Defense and all others involved to truly influence the situation and effectively assist our warriors and their families," said Zelensky.
The President noted that he had discussed this issue with military personnel, representatives of civil society, and Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov.
"There were many perspectives. And now the first decision has been prepared – a decree on the appointment of the President of Ukraine's representative for the protection of the rights of military personnel and their families. This is to initiate this work and prepare for the launch of the ombudsman institution. I have chosen a candidate – a strong candidate. The decree will be published tomorrow," he stated.
According to Zelensky, a draft law on the military ombudsman will be agreed upon, along with "the relevant systemic foundations for its activities: powers, finances, and everything else."
"I urge the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the government to timely support the innovations that will be proposed. We must soon give the green light to the work of the military ombudsman," the president urged.
