Zelensky responded to the death of the American president. Biden has declared a period of mourning in the United States.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky extended his condolences to the family of the late former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and to all Americans.

"He was a leader... during a time when Ukraine had not yet gained independence, but his heart was always with us as we fought for freedom," wrote Zelensky on December 30.

According to him, Ukrainians appreciate Carter's dedication to democratic values and his unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of aggression from Russia.

"Carter dedicated his life to promoting peace in the world and protecting human rights. This is what I ask you to remember today: peace matters, and we must remain united against those who threaten these values," the Ukrainian president stated in his post.

On December 29, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the death of the 39th president of the United States, citing his son. Carter passed away at the age of 100, living longer than any other U.S. president.

The current head of the White House, Joe Biden, declared a period of mourning following Carter's death, reports his administration's press office. He ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on all public buildings, military posts, and naval stations and vessels across the country for 30 days. Flags should also be lowered at U.S. diplomatic missions abroad.
