A man was detained in Stockholm (Sweden) for attempting to drive into the territory of the Russian Embassy. The Russian embassy claims that the detainee is a citizen of Ukraine. According to the report by Aftonbladet, the incident occurred on the morning of January 28.
"The police arrested a man who tried to pass through the gates of the Russian embassy on Kungsholmen in Stockholm," the publication states.
It is noted that the Russian diplomatic mission is located on Jorvelsgatan street.
The man is approximately 45 years old and was apprehended while still in the vehicle.
"We arrested him for attempting to illegally enter someone else's territory," said police representative Daniel Vikdahl.
The embassy's security called the authorities to the scene.
The Russian Embassy in Sweden has already reported an "attack." According to the Russian side, the incident occurred around 7 a.m., and the driver of the vehicle that allegedly "attempted to ram" the gates was reportedly a Ukrainian citizen residing permanently in Sweden.
No significant damage was inflicted on the Embassy.
The embassy claims that the detainee had previously attempted attacks on the embassy and the Russian trade mission in Sweden in 2015 and 2018, and was allegedly deemed "mentally unstable," directed by Swedish authorities for appropriate treatment.
Incidents with Russian Embassies
Recall that in 2023, a Russian opposition journalist and volunteer Arkady Babchenko was detaied in Estonia while throwing eggs at the Russian embassy in Tallinn. According to Delfi, after midnight, a man born in 1977 threw eggs at the wall of the Russian Federation embassy. It was noted that the man was so bold that he continued to "bombard" the wall of the building with eggs even in the presence of police. It turned out that the individual was journalist Babchenko, who had lived in Ukraine for a long time. Babchenko himself confirmed that he was the one detained near the embassy.
