The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has kept the head of the Khmelnytsky Regional Medical and Social Expertise Center (MSEC) Tatyana Krupa in custody. However, her bail amount has been significantly reduced, as reported by "Suspilne".
Krupa's lawyer argued that the decision of the Pechersk District Court to arrest the official was made in violation of the law. According to her, it was the HACC that should have made the ruling, not the Pechersk Court.
The defense also contested the bail set at 500 million hryvnias, insisting that the Criminal Procedure Code prohibits setting bail higher than 80 living wages, which is equivalent to 250 thousand hryvnias.
Furthermore, the lawyer urged the court to take into account the suspect's health condition and to release her on bail.
Ultimately, the judge decided to keep Tatyana Krupa in custody but significantly reduced the bail amount from 500 to 300 million hryvnias, as reported by "Suspilne".
The Case of Tatyana Krupa
As noted by UNIAN, in early October, a scandal erupted in Ukraine involving the head of the Khmelnytsky MSEC, Tatyana Krupa. Both she and her son were subjected to searches on suspicion of illegal enrichment, during which nearly 6 million U.S. dollars in various currencies was found in cash. Additionally, a number of counterfeit medical documents and lists of "draft dodgers" with names and fictitious diagnoses were discovered.
However, two weeks later, the scandal escalated when it was revealed that dozens of prosecutors in Khmelnytsky region had obtained disability status. This raised immediate suspicions that these disabilities might be fraudulent, and that Tatyana Krupa may have played a role in facilitating their issuance.
In light of this scandal, the government, under the president's mandate, initiated a large-scale reform of the MSEC system.
